Walk-Fit Trails

Quick Lunch Walk on the River Bridges

Need a quick calorie blast? This quick walk should take you only a half hour or under, and you'll see sights such as The Jacksonville Landing, The Main Street Bridge, and not to mention a gorgeous view of the St. John's River! This is a "real" walk that you can do if you live and work in the downtown Jacksonville area. Try it virtually as well if not!

Spanning just over one mile in length, the Riverwalk on the south bank of the St Johns River in Jacksonville is a wooden boardwalk that is ideal for languid strolls or vigorous jogs. Since it offers wonderful views of the city's shiny buildings, you'll want to bring your camera along when exploring it. In addition to snapping photos of the downtown buildings, you might take some pictures of the shorebirds that you are likely to see, or maybe the passing riverboats. As you stroll along the south bank Jacksonville Riverwalk, you will come across some military memorials and a small museum that highlights Jacksonville history.
Start at the Landing and go to the next stop in a clockwise setup, the Main Street Bridge.

Jacksonville Beach Trail

Jacksonville Beach is a city on the Atlantic coast of Duval County, east of Jacksonville, Florida, US. It is part of the Jacksonville Beaches community, together with Mayport, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, and Ponte Vedra Beach. When the city of Jacksonville consolidated with Duval County in 1968, Jacksonville Beach, together with Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, and Baldwin, voted to retain their own municipal governments.

Like most of northeast Florida, the Jacksonville Beach area was originally inhabited by the Timucua peoples. Though the Jacksonville Beaches region was one of the first parts of what is now the continental United States to see settlement during the period of European colonization, the area of Jacksonville Beach itself was not settled until the 19th century.

The Jacksonville Aroboretum & Gardens is a beautiful park located on approximately 120-acres.  Among the 120-acres of land, this unique area offers 13 distinct and different eco-systems.  It got this way through use, abuse, neglect and resurrection.  The Arboretum also has a variety of activites to offer including educational tours and six different trails. The Park is open seven days a week during daylight hours at 1445 Millcoe Road, Jacksonville, FL 32225.  At Shannon Miller Lifestyle, we created a trail combining three of the parks trails.  Our motto for this one is, "keep to the right."

Alpine Groves Park

South of Jacksonville on State Rd 13 (San Jose Blvd) you'll find an old Orange Grove that is being restored to a working park, complete with the old homestead, walking trails, a long dock and boathouse on the St Johns River and abundant wildlife and plants (even several eagle nests). There are numerous areas for great pictures, sitting and relaxing on the edge of the river, as well as bird viewing (I've seen several bald eagles during my walks here). The trail itself is not very long, around 1 mile in total length, however you can complete it several times to make it longer and more challenging. The entire path is paved without motor vehicles.
