Itera Weekend of Racing!
Author: Shannon Miller Lifestyle
Join us for the “Itera Weekend of Racing” benefiting the Shannon Miller Foundation, on Saturday and Sunday, September 21 and 22, 2013 in Jacksonville.
This bicycle racing event (formerly known as the Great Nocatee Stage Race) is sanctioned by both the Florida Road Cycling Association and USA Cycling, and is known for providing a great cycling experience for all ages and levels of competitors.
Weekend of Racing offers categories for licensed USAC racers as well as a special Fun Ride, just for kids!
The course for this year is the same downtown criterium course as last year. We will race on the streets encircling the baseball grounds of Jacksonville and the Veterans Memorial Stadium. The start finish line is at the corner of AP Randolph and East Duval St.
The course offers easy, wide corners and plenty of open areas so that fans and supporters can watch the action.
The event will begin at 3:00 pm on Saturday and run through 6pm. On Sunday the competitors return and racing begins at 8am and will culminate with the Pro and Elite men’s race at noon. These racers will be competing for over $7,000 dollars in cash and prizes.
Food and concessions will be brought to the event by Tropical Smoothie.
Tyke Bike Race
Shortly after the professional race on Sunday 9/22, the racing will take a short break in the action and we will host a “tyke bike” event on the criterium course. The “tyke bike” is a family orientated event which is open to anyone under the age of 12. Parents are allowed to walk or escort their children around the course. Children are encouraged to participate and ride their bikes on the race course. Please bring a helmet. This will provide an opportunity for families and children to be involved in a criterium event. (Shannon Miller to host /attend). As a special treat, we will be raffling off 15 youth bike helmets shortly after the “tyke bike”.
- Helmets will required for all participants during this Fun Ride, and the kids will be accompanied by members the VeloBrew Racing Squad.
